Climate Education And Exhibits Internship At The Aldo Leopold Nature Center


Climate Education and Exhibits Internship Position Description
Time Commitment:
 10-30hrs/wk: flexible; must be available some weekdays between 9-5 and some evenings/weekends (i.e. Wonder
Weekends, special events, public hours, etc.).
 Compensation: unpaid - please see opportunities listed below.

Responsibilities (may include any or all of the following):
 Staff exhibit floor, run exhibits, and provide customer service and interpretation for public. Assist in preparing exhibit hall
and programming for school and public programs, special events, and general visitation.
 Lead tours and programs for a variety of youth and general audiences as needed.
 Assist with development and updating of exhibit floor guides, activities, digital resources, manuals, and procedures.
 Assist with coordination and training of volunteer docents.
 Assist with development, installation, and maintenance of a variety of multimedia educational technologies.
 Assist with tracking and evaluating visitors and visitor experience on exhibit floor.
 Other duties and special projects (intern-directed projects are encouraged upon approval).

Requirements:
 At least 18 years of age
 Commitment and reliability
 Cheerful, positive and open attitude and ability to work with public of all ages
 Flexibility and creativity
 Interest in environmental and climate education; strong science background preferred
 Excellent organization skills and ability to multi-task
 Experience working with technology (IT, A/V equipment, etc.); computer skills (Microsoft Office, publishing design, etc.)
 Communication skills, both oral and written
 Reliable transportation to ALNC (and possible outreach events)
Opportunities:
 Gain experience in a "high-tech, high-touch" state-of-the-art facility using a wide range of educational technology,
including digital curriculum, theaters, museum exhibits/displays, non-formal educational programming, etc.
 Gain experience in a museum setting, including behind-the-scenes and on-the-floor coordination.
 Gain access to a range of high-quality educational and climate science resources.
 Develop resources and implement programming to increase climate literacy in Wisconsin and beyond.
 Become familiar with a variety of non-formal educational techniques, curriculum and communication.

Aldo Leopold Nature Center (ALNC) is a private, not-for-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the conservation ethic of Aldo Leopold through environmental education and awareness. Founded in 1994, with sites in Monona and Black Earth, ALNC provides hands-on environmental programming for school children and their families, reaching more than 40,000 people annually. In addition, ALNC sponsors Nature Net: the Environmental Learning Network, which promotes
environmental education for children by organizing collaborative networks of nature centers throughout Wisconsin(naturenet.com). The Aldo Leopold Nature Center's NEW addition, designed to teach children, their families and teachers about climate science, renewable energy and sustainability, opened in spring 2012, is under continual development.
