CIFOR is seeking a full time Post Doctoral Fellow, Global Comparative Study on REDD+
The Post Doctoral Fellow’s research will contribute to developing policy-relevant conclusions on institutional design for specific country and regional contexts. The Post Doctoral Fellow’s work will be integrated and supported by the GCS-REDD+ national REDD+ strategies component and will be attached to the Forests and Governance Programme. The Fellow will be responsible ultimately to the Forests and Governance Programme Director and under immediate day-to-day supervision of the component leader.
General duties and responsibilities Support the GCS-REDD+ research on national REDD+ strategies and policies development; Provide support and training for partners in this research area’s core methodology; Work closely with the partners in all regions particularly in Latin America and ensure comparability and quality of data and outputs; Contribute to global, cross regional and regional comparison with a specific focus on the Latin American continent; Conduct research and analyse data on the politics of REDD+ and the related policy processes, policy discourses and policy outputs, by applying innovative methods for qualitative and quantitative comparative analysis; Conduct a review of performance measurements and indicators in the context of development policies and measures and environmental governance; Contribute to the design and conduct research and analysis on cross-component themes, with a specific focus on national REDD+ policy outputs and local policy outcomes; Contribute to proposal writing; Publish articles together with partners and other scientists in this research area; and Travel extensively to the GCS countries where this research is taking place with a specific focus on the Latin American continent (i.e. Brazil and Peru).
Requirements
Education, experience and technical skills PhD in the social sciences, preferably in political sciences, with expertise in comparative analysis of qualitative and quantitative data Knowledge and experience in forests and/or environmental governance, political economy, climate change mitigation and adaptation Knowledge of REDD, governance and the political economy of land use and deforestation Experience in social or policy network analysis Experience in the creation, management and analysis of larger datasets (survey data) and quantitative and qualitative data analysis computer software packages Experience in project management and partner liaison Fluency in English and Spanish, with excellent writing skills

Terms and conditions Competitive remuneration in US dollars commensurate with skills and experience The appointment will be for a period of two years (including one year probation) with a possibility of extension contingent upon performance, continued relevance of the position and available resources. The duty station will be at CIFOR headquarters in Bogor, Indonesia, with travel to research sites.
