About your environment
Cancer Council Victoria (CCV) has been leading the fight against cancer since 1936 by focussing on research, prevention, support and advocacy programs that deliver better outcomes for people affected by cancer. The Cancer Prevention Centre (CPC) provides information, advice and education relating to the prevention, detection and management of cancer, as well as promoting organisational and environmental change.
The Obesity Policy Coalition (OPC) is based in the Cancer Prevention Centre. It is a coalition between CCV, Diabetes Australia-Victoria, the WHO Collaborating Centre for Obesity Prevention at Deakin University and VicHealth. The objectives of the OPC are to research and advocate for evidence-based policy and regulatory interventions designed to reduce overweight and obesity in Australia, particularly in children.
About your opportunity
We are seeking a Legal Policy Advisor to join the Obesity Policy Coalition. Reporting to the OPC's Executive Manager, your role is to plan, manage and undertake the legal and regulatory work of the OPC. You will undertake research and provide advice on legal, regulatory issues relevant to obesity prevention; propose and advocate for legal and regulatory interventions to prevent obesity; and liaise on these issues with key government and non-government stakeholders.
About you
With a Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor and demonstrated related work experience in law and/or legal policy issues, you will have high-level legal and policy skills as well as the ability to conduct first-class legal research and excellent writing skills. You will also have strong relationship management and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex legal and policy issues to a variety of audiences.
What we can offer you
This is a full-time fixed term position for twelve months with a Total Equivalent Package Value within range $80,792 to $95,045 pa (includes base salary, superannuation, annual leave loading and maximum benefit of salary packaging).
