The Organisation
The Europe Gas Marketing (EGM) Department is responsible for the marketing of BG Group’s UK gas production, gas trading in the UK and North West Europe and for maximising the value of BG Group’s portfolio in Europe: North Sea gas production, pipeline capacity and LNG import terminal capacity.
Position Summary
The role of the Gas Scheduler is a great opportunity working within the downstream gas arena. It is a critical part of our business, providing accurate information about the company’s gas portfolio to National Grid and other network operators, and to BG Group’s traders on a real time basis, ensuring gas supply and demand are balanced to a financially optimum level.

It will involve assisting the Gas Operations Manager in preparing the Operations team for new business requirements and systems implementations.
 
The jobholder will report to the Gas Operations Manager.
Key Accountabilities
  • Nominate daily physical and transportation requirements in accordance with shipper license requirements.
  • Ensure all day to day scheduling activities are carried out within the requirements of the relevant European transportation regimes.
  • Monitor and update the daily position of the company’s gas portfolio including the field positions, pipeline and LNG flows, capacity allocations and storage positions within the various operational systems.
  • Understand and manage EGM’s capacity entitlements within the UK and European markets and facilitate the movement of gas within and between these various markets.
  • Act as first point of contact for physical deliveries of BG Group’s equity gas, traded gas from external trading and transportation counter parties, production asset personnel and internal traders.
  • Perform after the day reconciliations of actual flows within external and internal systems.
  • Perform “Out of Hours On Call” duty including supervising the gas scheduling, participation in the on-line within day traded market and any necessary commercial negotiations to generate economic value and balance the portfolio. This has a degree of P&L responsibility.
  • Assist in or lead in the development, planning and implementing of solutions, processes and procedures for new business requirements and train other team members.
  • Execute and administer operations systems and process upgrades, developments, improvements and changes. 
  • Challenge existing processes and procedures and be responsible for the testing and implementation of system and process improvements / upgrades, revising and updating procedures and training other team members.
  • Communicate any system failures or process faults.
  • Communicate to line manager or peers any issues or observations relevant to Scheduling. Suggest solutions and with approval lead on implementing improvements.
  • Communicate externally to resolve any queries, following established procedures or establishing new procedures where required.
  • Carry out any adhoc tasks or analysis as directed by the Gas Operations Manager.

Unique Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Attribute
Experience required:
  • Experience of the Natural Gas and energy markets.
  • Experience of the market rules in UK and Europe or proven capability to understand and act within complex business environments.
  • Computer literate with the ability to quickly learn new IT systems and experience of Microsoft packages. Advanced Excel and VBA skills an advantage.
  • Experienced and proficient at completing all routine scheduling tasks with limited supervision.
  • Experience of leading on and dealing with any non-routine/non-procedural tasks, seeing issues through to successful resolution.
  • Experience of leading on operations systems upgrades/developments and new business readiness.

  • Be familiar with and understand the implications of industry regulation including UNC and European transportation network codes.
  • Ability to speak other European languages an advantage.
Special features:
 
The Jobholder will be expected to work flexible hours to cover both daily operational duties in the office and “Out of Hours” duties from home. This will include being on call on a rota basis to cover evenings, weekends and bank holidays.
