ROLE OUTLINE:
The position of Geo-Environmental Engineer/ Senior Engineer is within WYG’s expanding Geo-Environment Capability and will be based in the Cardiff office in South Wales.  
Geo-environmental consultancy is at the core of our business but WYG are also framework site investigation providers for various public and private sector clients including; National Grid Property Holdings, Defence Infrastructure Organisation, the Environment Agency and several South Wales Councils, in addition to bespoke services for many other private sector clients.   We are seeking to strengthen our capabilities principally with respect to the delivery of geo-environmental site investigation management services through the expansion of geo-environmental team in South Wales. The right candidate will be self-motivated, resourceful and solution focused and with a keen eye for detail and quality.
The role will require regular travel within Wales and the southwest region but there may also be occasional requirements to support other regional offices throughout the UK and potentially overseas.
The main duties and responsibilities of the Geo-Environmental Engineer will be to support the design, supervision, procurement and management site investigations for both environmental and geotechnical purposes. The role will require liaison with clients and contractors and all aspects of site management in a broad variety of settings for a diverse client base. The role will also require factual reporting and elements of interpretive assessment and geo-environmental consultancy. There will be regular requirement for interface with the local and national team with future opportunities to develop into areas of specialism available in due course.
The Geo-Environmental Engineer must have a relevant degree, and ideally also a postgraduate degree, in an environment-related subject. Prior experience of work within the Geo-Environmental Industry is essential and the ideal candidate will have prior working knowledge and experience of the running large and complex sites, as well as associated software and data management systems (for example Holebase). The following outlines a list of desirable qualifications/accreditations:
  • Emergency First Aid at Work
  • CSCS Card
  • IOSH / CITB Construction Skills or similar
  • CAT and Genny Trained
  • WWW clearance for working on MOD sites
  • PTS for rail work
An excellent working knowledge of Health and Safety procedures with respect to site management is essential.
It is critical that the applicant has indepth industry based experienced of which includes GI supervisory capacity. This is a minimum requirement to become ‘White Listed’ for Environment Agency work and applicants who do not have this level of experience should not apply. Further training requirements can be provided to the successful applicant for any of the above mentioned accreditations as long as the experience level criterion is met.
