Faculty positions in Materials & Manufacturing

The Institut Teknologi Brunei -Faculty of Engineering

Institut Teknologi Brunei (ITB) was officially upgraded to University status in 2008 and has embarked on a programme to establish and increase degree programmes in Engineering, Business and Computing. ITB also wishes to increase its research profile through the recruitment and supervision of research students and the establishment of research projects, especially related to the National Vision. To achieve this there is a continuing need to recruit high quality academic staff on contract basis. The period of contract is 3 years which is renewable subject to mutual agreement.

Applications are now invited for the positions of Lecturer, Senior Lecturer, Principal Lecturer, Associate Professor and Professor in Materials & Manufacturing (ref. ITB/FENG/ME/004), Mechanical Engineering Programme Area, Faculty of Engineering, and suitably qualified candidates are invited to apply.

Applicants must have a PhD or MSc with a minimum 10 years' industrial experience in Mechanical Engineering field specializing in Materials Science and Engineering or Manufacturing Engineering from a recognized university, and demonstrated outstanding record of research productivity and teaching excellence. Additional of professional qualification would be of advantage.

Postgraduate teaching experience will be preferred and an ability to teach in the following areas of Materials Science and Engineering such as structure and properties of engineering materials including metals, alloys, ceramics, polymers and composites, mechanical testing and characterization of engineering materials and experimental and failure analysis of engineering materials using optical and scanning electron microscopy; whereas in the areas of manufacturing Engineering such as manufacturing processes, manufacturing engineering and shop floor control. Experience in Industrial Automation and Rapid Prototyping would be an added advantage. A demonstrated interest and ability to assume a leadership role in the Manufacturing Engineering group is highly desirable. Candidates having a good track record of experimental and research work experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels would be an added advantage. The successful applicant should be able to design and teach courses in all areas Materials Science and Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Active participation in the activities of the Faculty is also expected.

Qualifications

1. Lecturer - Minimum Masters' level or equivalent professional qualification. Preference will be given to a candidate with PhD in their respective field.
2. Senior Lecturer - Postgraduate level or an equivalent professional qualification with at least 3 years' relevant academic experience in tertiary teaching and research. Preference will be given to candidates holding a PhD in their respective field.
3. Principal Lecturer - Normally a PhD with at least 5 years' relevant academic experience in higher education.
4. Associate Professor - Hold a PhD with at least 7 years' relevant academic experience and a proven record in teaching, research and administration in higher education. Able to demonstrate an international reputation in teaching research and scholarship.
5. Professor - Candidate should already be holding the post of Associate Professor with at least 7 years' relevant academic experience. Able to demonstrate an international reputation in teaching research and scholarship. Must have a significant publication record in international journals and have successfully supervised students to completion of PhD.
