Overnight Supervisor (FT) – Mary's Place Emergency Family Shelter


Emergency Family Shelter (EFS) is a new shelter operated jointly by Mary's Place and Seattle's Union Gospel Mission. The shelter is located at 3rd and Bell St. and provides emergency overnight care for women with children facing homelessness.

Position: Overnight Supervisor (FT) – Mary's Place Emergency Family Shelter

Reports to: Family Shelter Coordinator – Mary's Place

Mission: Mary's Place is the first stop on the journey out of homelessness for women and children. We are an accepting community providing safety, stability, dignity and hope to restore the lives of homeless women and their children.

Overall Responsibility: The Emergency Family Shelter (EFS) overnight supervisor works with homeless women and children who are in need of a safe setting to find refuge at night. The supervisor creates a welcoming atmosphere of safety, stability, dignity and hope to restore the lives of homeless women and their children. General responsibilities include supervising support staff, providing basic care and crisis management, general housekeeping and facility maintenance, maintaining a set program schedule and offering acceptance and hope when it feels like the rest of the world has walked out. This position requires that the hired staff member remain awake for all overnight hours worked.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Act as managing supervisor for up to five Mary's Place overnight support staff by mentoring and providing leadership
Ensure all responsibilities are carried out and enforce Mary's Place rules and policies
Maintain ongoing and open communication with Mary's Place Family Shelter Coordinator and Union Gospel Mission EFS Program Supervisor
Assist homeless women and their children, up to 48 individuals, with any issues that may arise during the night
Provide crisis management over the phone and in-person
Work with the police and other individuals to facilitate emergency intakes throughout the night
Wash bedding nightly and assist with general housekeeping tasks as needed
Facilitate the morning routine including: wake-up, breakfast and packing away sleeping spaces
Communicate with other staff members including the maintenance of ongoing client documentation
Provide resources and referrals to families as needed
Participate in regular staff meetings
Maintain a calm demeanor and model positive behavior
Embrace the Mary's Place mission of empowering homeless women and adhere to staff guidelines as outlined in the Employee Handbook
Perform other duties as assigned
Consults with: Overnight support staff, Mary's Place staff, UGM staff, EFS staff and volunteers.

Term of employment: Ability to work overnight shifts running from 11pm – 8am, including some holidays. FTE.

Qualifications:

College degree in social services or related field; experience working in a shelter setting or with homeless population strongly desired
Strong personal alignment with the mission of Mary's Place/EFS
Ability to lead a team
Good at problem solving, conflict mediation and crisis management
Ability to set appropriate boundaries and maintain calm demeanor in a chaotic setting
Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor
Strong communication and documentation skills
Exhibits compassion and empathy and works well with women and children from all ethnic, social, economic and sexual orientation backgrounds
Compensation:

$32,000 - $35,000 per year + benefits package including paid time off
