Cash Manager


The Museum of Modern Art is currently accepting applications for a Cash Manager who will be responsible for managing the Cashier Office including supervising the Associate Cashier, managing all of the Museums' cash, implementing best practices and proper cash controls and ensuring adherence to all relevant policies and procedures. Reporting to the Associate Controller, the Cash Manager will also have the following responsibilities:

- Ensuring that checks are scanned in a timely fashion, cash deposits are prepared timely and accurately for armored car service pick up.

- Performing cash handling for petty cash, cash advances and employee paychecks including ensuring that all expenditures are within Museum guidelines.

- Ensuring all general ledger entries are input on a timely basis.

- Ensuring monthly reconciliations of bank accounts and daily reconciliations of safe balances completed in a timely manner with immediate follow up on discrepancies.

- Facilitating periodic instruction for various departments on cash handling, including techniques for cashiers to identify counterfeit bills.

- Conducting periodic cash audits for Museum departments and implementing cash controls and cash handling best practices throughout the Museum.

- Managing departmental petty cash balances and performing ad hoc audits to ensure accuracy.

- Providing cash support for departments such as Retail, Visitor Services, Development, and Membership.

- Developing, maintaining and articulating basic metrics regarding throughput of cashier's office.

Qualified candidates will possess a Bachelor's degree and 5-10 years' relevant experience at least 3 of which must be in a supervisory or managerial capacity or equivalent. Basic bookkeeping skills are required as is proficiency with Excel and Word. PeopleSoft skills are a plus. Experience handling a high volume of currency. Excellent organizational, communication and customer service skills. Detail orientation and mathematical accuracy. Must be adaptable and able to work well under time pressure. Proactive with the ability to anticipate cash needs based on Museum activities. Must be able to assume and delegate responsibility. This individual must have the ability to work unsupervised, while anticipating and preparing for the cash needs of the Museum.
