Individual Philanthropy Manager - Venice Family Clinic


Venice Family Clinic provides quality, primary health care to people in need. As the largest community health center on the Westside of Los Angeles, Venice Family Clinic serves more than 24,400 men, women, children, teens, and seniors annually. Ninety-seven percent are low-income and nearly three-quarters are uninsured. With a broad range of primary medical, dental, vision, mental health, specialty, integrative medicine, and health and wellness programs, Venice Family Clinic is the medical home for thousands of families in our community.

INDIVIDUAL PHILANTHROPY MANAGER

Venice Family Clinic seeks to hire an Individual Philanthropy Manager. Under the supervision of the Chief Development Director, the Individual Philanthropy Manager will oversee development activities associated with individual giving at Venice Family Clinic, the revenue for which totals nearly $1,500,000 annually. Programs include major gifts, planned gifts, annual giving, campaigns, direct mail, online giving, tribute gifts, donor cultivation and recognition events. The Individual Philanthropy Manager will be responsible for prospecting, direct solicitation, cultivation and stewardship, strategic planning and analysis, donor and volunteer development.

SUPERVISION

The Director will report directly to the Chief Development Officer and serve as the head of the Individual Philanthropy team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Individual Philanthropy Solicitation, Cultivation and Stewardship (60%)

Oversee a year-round comprehensive, strategic solicitation program; develop an integrated effort to build the Clinic's base of individual donors and increase unrestricted revenue through individual philanthropy.
Identify, cultivate, solicit, recognize, and steward Silver Circle major gifts ($2,000-$100,000) to support general operating, capital, campaign and additionally identified programs; increase individual giving revenue which currently totals in excess of $1,300,000 annually.
Manage a full-time staff Development Associate responsible for annual giving ($1-$1,999), direct mail and online giving with revenue totaling approximately $150,000 annually.
Cultivate major donor relationships; engage donors through phone, mail, email, clinic tours and personal meetings to ensure successful cultivation, stewardship and solicitation of donor and prospect portfolio.
Manage and increase membership in Legacy Society, Venice Family Clinic's planned giving program, including stewarding existing members; identifying, cultivating and securing new legacy gifts.
Work with Development Associate to devise and implement innovative methods to increase support for membership, direct mail, merchandise and tribute programs.
Works closely with the Data Manager and Finance team around gift processing; monitors donor record processing and supports timely acknowledgements for all individual giving programs.
Develop concepts and messages, write solicitation proposals for Individual Philanthropy prospects and donors, oversee preparation of solicitation planning materials for meetings; oversee preparation of reports, donor acknowledgement listings and recognitions.
Provide support to capital campaign initiatives through the qualification and solicitation of campaign prospects, tracking of campaign outreach and fulfillment of individual campaign donor recognition.
B. Individual Philanthropy Program Management, Strategy and Analysis (15%)

Design, implement, and evaluate innovative fundraising strategies to achieve goals for activities within the Individual Philanthropy program.
Manage donor stewardship and acknowledgement programs; develop and grow Silver Circle membership program, including engagement and recognition opportunities.
Increase Individual Philanthropy revenue by upgrading existing qualified donors and expanding the Clinic's donor base through identification, cultivation, and solicitation of new constituencies.
In consultation with the Chief Development Officer, oversee expense and revenue budgets, financial and constituent reports related to the Clinic's Individual Philanthropy program.
Identify and recruit high level volunteers on a continuous basis for Event Committees, Board of Directors, Campaign Leadership and other senior engagement opportunities; recruit and manage Individual Philanthropy interns.
C. Donor Cultivation and Recognition Events (15%)

Develop effective mechanisms for use of special events and other cultivation opportunities to recognize existing donors, and identify major gift prospects.
Serve as primary point of contact for major donors attending Silver Circle Gala; conduct outreach to all major donors, attend committee meetings, coordinate RSVPs, seating and other associated logistics.
Work closely with Director of Special Events to coordinate logistics of and secure attendees for 4 donor cultivation events and 10-12 third-party events annually; engage donors as appropriate in attending and supporting Venice Family Clinic activities throughout the year.
D. Miscellaneous (10%)

Maintain strong working relationships with Special Events, Communications and Grants & Evaluations teams to ensure streamlined donor stewardship and solicitation.
Work with Communications staff to develop digital and print materials including letters, brochures, appeals, and other communications associated with the Individual Philanthropy program.
Participates as active member of the Development team, including attending department meetings, events, and providing general support to team members as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in non-profit communications, marketing and public relations, including strategic planning.
Demonstrated leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications, media relations and marketing program to advance an organization's mission and goals.
Extensive experience and skills in writing, editing and management of communications and graphic designs; outstanding attention to detail.
Strong organizational skills and proficiency in prioritizing assignments to complete projects in a timely and thorough manner.
Excellent written and oral communication skills to convey information with accuracy, creativity and diplomacy.
Excellent interpersonal skills to develop and enhance relationships with media, donors, volunteers and colleagues.
Strong project management skills, planning and ability to manage multiple priorities and think critically in a fast paced environment.
Absolute discretion with regard to confidential donor information.
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.
California driver's license, car, and proof of auto insurance.
Understanding of public health and health services issues preferred.
Supervisory and motivational skills to lead and project manage.
Demonstrated ability to work effective in a team environment that emphasizes creativity, self-direction and active decision-making by providing constructive feedback and support.
Demonstrated working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the internet.
