Open Rank Position in History


Nazarbayev University -School of Humanities and Social Sciences

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Nazarbayev University seeks to appoint a full-time professor in the history of South Asia, East Asia, or the Persian-speaking world. We are particularly interested in candidates whose research and instruction emphasizes connections between these regions and Central Asia. Rank, period, and specialization are open. Candidates would be expected to offer a survey course in the history of lands and peoples of what is now Kazakhstan, as well as courses based on their research interests. Responsibilities will include but not be limited to teaching classes, curriculum and program development, research, providing departmental guidance and leadership. The successful candidate will teach two courses per semester. The salary and benefits package is highly competitive by European and North American standards and it includes medical benefits, housing, and travel. The University offers opportunities for research support.

The School of Humanities and Social Sciences offers degree programs in political science and international relations, economics, anthropology, sociology, history, and languages and literature. We began operation in fall 2011 with approximately 125 students and plan to grow to 600 students over the next few years. The faculty-student ratio is approximately 8:1.
Ph.D. in hand or expected by the starting date in August 2013, preferably from a Western or leading international university.
