SG4 Senior Officer, Digital Forensics


SOCA/NCA tackles serious criminality that impacts on the UK and its citizens. This includes class A drugs, people smuggling and human trafficking, major gun crime, fraud, computer crime, money laundering and the corruption that organised criminals use to facilitate these crimes.
We work to imprison serious criminals, and use many other tactics to disrupt crime and keep people safe. In particular, we want to ensure crime doesn’t pay and that it’s harder to commit. We also draw on innovative new approaches to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.

Starting Salary: £32,956 - £43,240. The starting salary for the successful candidate is open to negotiation within that pay scale depending on experience and qualification.
Role summary:
To manage/supervise a multi-functional team of digital forensic staff and to undertake investigations into technologically enabled crime.
Candidates are required to provide evidence against ONLY the followingPersonal Qualities Framework (PQF). The level required is listed on the Role Profile and below –

Candidates are required to provide evidence against ONLY the following Entry Criteria taken from the Role Profile –
    1. Experience in collection and analysis of evidence from digital devices.
    2. A good understanding of relevant legislation (UK and international law) affecting Agency activity with a particular emphasis of legislation affecting digital evidence, including:
      • European Court of Human Rights (ECHR);
        • Serious Organised Crime & Police Act 2005;
        • Criminal Justice and Police Act 2001, Part 2 – seize and sift;
          • Computer Misuse Act 1990; Police Act 1997 Part 3 – property interference;
          • Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act (RIPA) 2000 Parts 1 and 3 – interception & disclosure of encryption keys
            • Criminal Procedure & Investigations Act 1996 - Electronic Disclosure.
              3. Proven experience of supervising/managing a team and working to tight deadlines.
                4. Preparation and presentation of evidence in court.
                  Candidates are required to meet & evidence the following Training and Professional Qualifications taken from the Role Profile –
                  Essential
                  • EnCase Advanced training (or equivalent)
                  • Shrivenham Forensic Computing training (or equivalent)
                  • Second forensic tool training
                  Additional Information
                  • Must be willing to regularly travel nationally and/or overseas
                  Assessment
                  • Candidates will be required to undertake an additional technical assessment as part of the selection process.

                  SECURITY CLEARANCE
                  To be considered, you will need to successfully complete Security clearance (SC) before commencing the role.

                  You should be aware that some roles within SOCA/NCA do require Developed Vetting Security clearance but this is not required for entry.
