SOCA/NCA tackles serious criminality that impacts on the UK and its citizens. This includes class A drugs, people smuggling and human trafficking, major gun crime, fraud, computer crime, money laundering and the corruption that organised criminals use to facilitate these crimes.
We work to imprison serious criminals, and use many other tactics to disrupt crime and keep people safe. In particular, we want to ensure crime doesn’t pay and that it’s harder to commit. We also draw on innovative new approaches to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.

Role Summary
To provide technical solutions to Agency and other agencies, in support of the organisations strategic objectives. Responsible for scoping, design and implementation of effective technical solutions to support operational requirements.  To provide advice on legislation, policy, tactical options and evidential opportunities to assist in the planning and implementation of investigations and operations
Day in the life of a Technical Operations Engineer
We are currently looking to fill specialist roles with a dynamic forward looking and experienced Technically Qualified Engineer with the skills and enthusiasm to work within a challenging operational role.  This individual will must be dynamic and demonstrate a flexible attitude to working patterns and locations.
Day to Day, the successful candidate will have the responsibility for organising and deploying on operational covert technical activity involving;
radio frequency (RF) principles, electronics, telecommunications, satellite positioning technology, audio and visual capture. Software development in Windows, Linux and/or microcontroller-based mobile devices, network communications protocols and security, hardware diagnostics and reverse engineering.
Working closely with colleagues in the Operational, Capability and Development team, you will be expected to identify capability gaps and help develop solutions which enhance operational technical delivery.
Additionally, you will need to be adept at acquiring, analysing, articulating and presenting information in accordance with relevant standards.

Candidates are required to provide evidence against the following Entry Criteria taken from the Role Profile –
  1. Extensive knowledge of radio frequency (RF) principles, global system for mobile (GSM), global positioning system (GPS), Internet communications and management, network management, audio and CCTV.
  2. Good level of understanding of criminal law and UK legislation affecting SOCA activity.
  3. Experienced practitioner of intrusive technical surveillance operations with proven ability to work in hostile/challenging environments
  4. Software development skills in Windows, Linux and/or microcontroller based mobile devices, network communications protocols and security, hardware diagnostics and reverse engineering.
Candidates are required to provide evidence against the following Training and Professional Qualifications taken from the Role Profile–
Essential
HND/HNC in Electronics or similar technical qualification/ or equivalent/relevant experience.
Desirable
Experienced practitioner of intrusive technical surveillance operations with proven ability to work in hostile/challenging environments

SECURITY CLEARANCE
To be considered, you will need to successfully complete Security clearance (SC) before commencing the role.
You will also be required to undertake a mandatory pre-employment substance misuse test and achieve a satisfactory result.
You should be aware that some roles within SOCA/NCA do require Developed Vetting Security clearance but this is not required for entry.
