Founding Special Education Teachers - Brooklyn and Bronx
ROADS Charter High Schools
THE ORGANIZATION
Reinventing Options for Adolescents Deserving of Success (ROADS) opened two new charter high schools in Brooklyn and the Bronx in fall 2012. The mission of these two high schools is to ensure that disconnected youth – students age 15-17 who have fallen behind and are likely to drop out – do not simply graduate high school, but graduate fully prepared for college and careers. The application process gives a preference to those students most at risk: those involved in the juvenile justice system; homeless; former drop outs; in foster care or child protective services; or at least one year behind their graduation cohort.
ROADS will do this by seamlessly weaving together:
- Academic rigor;
- Socio-emotional support;
- Work-based skill-development; and
- Innovative technological strategies.
