The Buyer/Planner will plan and procure large quantities or specialized inventory to meet organizational needs.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Check requisitions for adequacy of specifications and approvals. Contact vendors, examine bids and make awards
  • Develop sources of supply where vendors and preferred supplies are inadequate
  • Negotiate contracts where losses occurring through errors in judgment would involve large dollar amounts
  • Contribute to efforts to reduce total material costs
  • Develop and maintain professional and cordial relationships with all suppliers
  • Evaluate material requirements and purchase inventory necessary to meet demand
  • Evaluate vendor performance against open purchase orders and notify suppliers of past due material
  • Act as liaison between production departments, product engineering, and sales/marketing departments especially regarding new product development/introduction and engineering changes (ECO)
  • Will utilize reports generated through computerized inventory system, ensure that open purchase orders continue to meet changing delivery requirements
  • As necessary, performs other duties as required
Qualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent training
  • Requires 2 - 4 years directly related experience in a buyer/planner role
  • Requires experience with electronic device manufacturing
  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Windows, etc.) required
  • APICS and/or NAPM certification
  • Experience with medical device manufacturing
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties including Company management and outside business associates
  • Ability to interact with management in all departments on a regular basis
  • Ability to represent the Company at professional and business functions in a competent manner
  • Excellent advocacy and persuasive skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Develops solutions to a variety of problems; ensures solutions are consistent with organization objectives
  • May be required to travel to various customer and vendor locations
  • Ability to travel to distribution center as needed
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Ability to hear and speak to employees and outside business associates on the phone and in person
  • Ability to see the letters and numbers on a personal computer screen and on memos, reports and other documents (near vision)
