Communications Officer


£24,300 -£28,150 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise) - Band BLondon SW1
£22,100 - £25,595 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise) - Band BGlasgow
Specific Minimum Qualifications and Expertise
  • Strong knowledge of website and intranet administration, including experience of managing digital publication processes through Content Management Systems.
  • Good writing skills and experience of writing for the web.
  • Good image editing skills and experience of using images in online content.
  • Good awareness of digital communications channels, and experience of using social media.
  • Good knowledge of HTML and the principles of effective website and intranet design.
  • Knowledge of the following technologies:
    • Adobe Dreamweaver
    • Adobe PhotoShop.
  • Some understanding of accessibility and usability standards.
  • Some experience of assisting with events management and associated administration.
  • Some experience of assisting in the production of a regular feature-based publication.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
  • Ablility to recognise problems, identify their root causes and suggest workable solutions.
  • Ability to clearly communicate relevant information, both verbally and in writing.
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently, using initiative where necessary.
Purpose
  • To provide the first line of support to Content Authors across the business.
  • To ensure effective and timely publication of website content.
  • To help ensure the accuracy and relevance of website and intranet content, with a focus on the quality of user experience.
  • To contribute to the content proposition of the website and intranet, through image editing and occasional copy writing.
  • To help administer and monitor social media initiatives, such as twitter and online commenting.
  • To assist with the monitoring and analysis of performance, using analytics software and producing reports, when required.
  • To help ensure all website content conforms to Government standards, including accessibility requirements.
  • To assist with the planning and execution of internal events and seminars.
  • To assist with the production of Energise, the internal Ofgem magazine.
  • To respond to queries from members of the public.
  • To provide cover for the Senior Communications Officer (internal) and the Senior Communications Officer (digital), as required.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
  • An accurate and promptly updated Ofgem corporate website that adheres to required standards, and is demonstrated to successfully meet its users’ needs.
  • The provision of best practice advice and solutions to Content Authors.
  • Effective monitoring and communication of digital channel performance, including via the production of analytics reports.
  • Input into the implementation of website improvements and upgrades and new digital initiatives, including selected use of social media and digital engagement technologies.
  • Basic site administration support for the intranet.
  • Input into the production of still image and video content, for both internal and external audiences.
  • Professional and timely responses to all relevant queries from members of the public and internal stakeholders.
  • Support for the planning and delivery of internal events, notably the rolling programme of lunchtime seminars.
  • Support for the successful planning and production of Energise, the internal magazine.
