Policy Analyst


£24,300 - £28.150 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise) - Band BLondon SW1
£22,100 - £25,595 p.a. (dependent on skills and expertise) - Band BGlasgow
Specific Minimum Qualifications and Expertise
  • Degree qualified in economics or a related analytical discipline, or equivalent.
  • Good analytical and quantitative skills, with practical experience in data (numerical/statistical) analysis and strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and have good organisational skills.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Some knowledge of the UK Energy sector would be advantageous.
Purpose
You will join a team which oversees the functioning of the retail markets, to make sure they are effectively delivering on consumers’ interests. The analysis and insights will feed into critical projects that shape the regulation of this extremely important area of the energy market. You will also be expected to work with colleagues in related areas, such as Sustainable Development and Smarter Markets.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
  • Contribute to market surveillance activities through careful monitoring and accurate analysis. This work will include researching and liaising with suppliers, consumer groups and government, where necessary, and may have tight deadlines.
  • Effectively communicating findings internally to the team and to other teams and externally, where appropriate.
  • Contribute to presentations for senior management and the production of internal and external documents.
  • Contribute to wider policy development within the GB Markets Directorate and Ofgem. 
Key Stakeholder Relationships
External
  • Build effective relationships with key industry stakeholders, ensuring Ofgem policy is clearly set out at all times.
  • Communicate effectively with government departments and consumer groups.
Internal
  • Build relationships with other directorates within Ofgem, providing input into various work strands.
Key Accountabilities
  • Contribute to high quality analysis of market developments and policy.
  • Contribute effectively to written deliverables (internal and external) such as reports and regulatory decisions.
  • Ensure clear communication (internally and externally) on retail market issues and on Ofgem policy more generally.
