BBC Northern Ireland is seeking to recruit a Content Assistant for its Classical Music unit, with specific responsibilities as music librarian and researcher.

Role

You’ll be responsible for the supply of performing scores and reference materials, particularly for the Ulster Orchestra, liaising with the BBC Music Library in London, conductors, publishers, agents etc.  Other duties include research for programmes, publicity, maintaining the classical music web site, page turning at concerts and assisting with programme and concert administration.

Requirements

You will be a practical musician with a thorough knowledge of the classical music repertoire, most likely to have been gained through a music degree. Some experience of handling scores and parts together with an ability to copy, transpose and adapt pieces of music are key elements of this post.  Practical experience of music score production systems such as Sibelius would be beneficial as would a knowledge of the music publishing business and music copyright law.
 
Effective administrative and interpersonal skills are essential, together with strong computer literacy. Some knowledge of the major European languages would be advantageous.
