Development and Communications Coordinator


The Program for Torture Victims (PTV), one of the nation's leading torture survivor treatment and advocacy organizations, has an exciting opportunity to advance our work on behalf of torture victims. The first human rights organization of its kind in the country, PTV rebuilds the lives of torture survivors from more than 65 countries, many of whom have stood up for freedom, democracy and human dignity. PTV heals the wounds of thousands of survivors through medical, mental health, legal, case management and housing assistance programs. We empower survivors to reenter society, reclaim their identities, and advocate toward a world without torture.

PTV seeks a highly motivated individual to be part of our dynamic team as its Development & Communications Coordinator. Responsibilities will focus on spearheading our annual Human Dignity Awards Dinner, elevating our visibility through earned media, e-newsletters and social networking, nonprofit collaborations, and managing the donor database and website. Reporting to the Executive Director, the ideal candidate will have comprehensive experience in large fundraising event logistics, volunteer management, public relations, social media and database administration.

The successful candidate will be enterprising and assertive, with excellent relationship-building skills and a passion for civil rights and social justice. S/he will have a bachelor's degree plus at least three years of proven experience in coordinating successful special events of more than 400+ participants and/or procuring corporate sponsorships. S/he will be adept at supporting Board members, working with the media, acquiring and managing fundraising volunteers, and stewarding current or prospective donors.

The ideal candidate will have already held positions such as Events Coordinator, Sponsorship Coordinator, Public Relations Coordinator, Communications Specialist or Development Associate with a career path aimed at Development Director.

To be successful in this position, the candidate must have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication and interpersonal skills. The candidate will be self-motivated, requiring minimal supervision, with the ability to interact effectively with board members, high level donors, press and volunteers. Strong math and computer skills are essential, including experience working with fundraising databases, social media, websites and generating reports for senior management and Board committees. Salary is $40-52K,dependent on experience.
