ROADS Charter High Schools
THE ORGANIZATION
ROADS (Reinventing Options for Adolescents who Deserve Success) Charter High Schools is a new school network tackling one the most important challenges in American society today: finding new ways to provide an excellent education for high school aged students who are the most at risk of dropping out. ROADS' first two high schools, ROADS I in East New York, Brooklyn, and ROADS II in the South Bronx, opened their doors to 300 students in August 2012.
Our mission is to ensure that students who are significantly behind academically, and who face other major hurdles in their lives, graduate from high school prepared to excel in college, career, and life. Integrating best practices from the fields of education reform, youth development, and career readiness, the ROADS model is designed to change the life trajectories of the students we serve. All ROADS students come to us having been left back at least once, and are typically reading at a 5th grade level. Our admissions process prioritizes admission for young people who are homeless, in foster care, or involved in the juvenile justice system.
