Are you a(n) media/activist who want to support global change? Are you interested in development and human rights? Or do you have a background supporting housing and land rights struggles? WITNESS is looking for a smart, savvy and dedicated intern to support its global campaign on forced evictions – with a particular focus in Cambodia, Egypt, Nigeria and India. Depending on the specific needs of the campaign, interns may be involved in a range of research, production support and outreach/advocacy activities.
This semester, we’re looking for the following super powers and special skills:
- Graphic designers, people with a love and knack for developing creative, effective, and powerful ways of visualizing complex advocacy information;
- Web/blog designers who would be interested in devising and creating campaign-specific landing pages to link content and campaign-related actions alongside our partners;
- Social media strategists & implementers... does creating an effective social media strategy for human rights campaigns sound like your cup of tweet?
Other tasks may include:
- Researching issues, contacts and background information on issues and campaigns;
- Logging, transcribing and editing video clips;
- Writing blogs on issues related to forced evictions;
- Supporting distribution and outreach around a particular video advocacy campaign;
- Participating in weekly staff meetings
All interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time engaged in administrative support.
Qualifications:
You will be happier if you have:
- A particular interest in forced evictions as a human rights issue
- A desire to support human rights activists in campaigns for changes in policies, practices, behaviors or laws
We will be happier if you’re a team-player that’s creative and has:
- Savvy social media skills, experience with online advocacy a plus
- Experience with Final Cut Pro or comparable video editing software
- Arabic, Chinese, Khmer language skills a plus
- Excellent writing skills, blogging experience a plus
General Information:
We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 15 hours a week. Internships are unpaid. Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains.
