The Social Media intern will work with the curator to manage the Human Rights Channel's presence on Twitter, Google+, and other platforms. Social media is a critical outreach mechanism for the Channel (www.youtube.com/humanrights), so this position is very central to the proejct. The intern will have an increasing level of autonomy in composing the Channel's approach to social media.
Tasks will include:
- Update Twitter & Google+ with videos and playlists published on the Human Rights Channel
- Find relevant articles, etc to share on social media channels to inform followers and spark conversation
- Identify and reach out to communities that exist around human rights issues
- Maintain lists and databases of activists, journalists, etc.
- Foster conversations and communities on social media around human rights issues
- Draft summaries and conversation starters for Google+
- Keep detailed engagement metrics
- Coordinate with other social media intern, content curation interns, blog/outreach manager.
Qualifications:
REQUIRED:
- Familiarity with and/or passion for global human rights
- Familiarity with social media (Google+, Twitter, or other social media networks)
- Strong, concise writing skills & attention to detail
- Avid interest in news/global affairs
PREFERRED:
- Coursework possibly (but not necessarily) in any of the following: journalism, international relations, law, communications, political science, history, social sciences, criminal justice, sociology
- Blogging or micro-blogging (e.g. Tumblr) experience
- Familiarity with social media management tools (Buffer, Hootesuite, Tweetdeck, etc)
- Foreign language ability (especially Arabic)
General Information:
We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 15-20 hours a week. Internships are unpaid. Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains. .
