Gender-Based Violence Campaign Internship - ARABIC


This semester we are looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable intern to support our work on promoting the effective use of video in advocacy around gender-based violence (GBV) in the context of armed conflict and political repression.


Tasks Include:

  • Researching current gender-based violence issues in several countries and conflicts
  • Researching events, conferences, contacts, and developments related to gender-based violence
  • Writing blogs on topics relevant to gender-based violence in conflict and video advocacy overall
  • Assisting with researching and drafting of thematic training materials
  • Supporting preparations for trainings conducted by WITNESS staff
  • Transcribing videos and training materials into Arabic.
  • Assisting with administrative tasks such as organizing contacts in our organizational database
  • Participating in weekly staff, departamental, and team meetings

All interns are expected to spend between 20-30% of their time engaged in administrative support.


Qualifications:

Potential interns should be upper undergraduates or graduate students. We look for a focus in studies on human rights, gender issues and/or women's rights, film, and regional studies.

In addition, we prefer candidates who have:

  • Solid understanding of gender-based violence as a human rights issue, specifically in the context of armed conflict and political repression.
  • Knowledge of regional and international human rights and justice mechanisms.
  • A background or familiarity with human rights video used in an advocacy context.
  • Relevant regional experience, either academic or practical.
  • Previous experience working with human rights groups or NGOs
  • Native Arabic fluency is ideal for this internship

General Information:

We require a minimum of two months commitment, for at least 20 hours a week. Internships are unpaid. Our offices are located in Brooklyn, NY, convenient to the Atlantic Terminal (2, 3, 4, 5, B, D, Q, N and R trains) and C (Lafayette) and G (Fulton) trains.
