ICIMOD is a regional knowledge development and learning centre serving the eight regional member countries of the Hindu Kush-Himalayas (HKH) – Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, India, Myanmar, Nepal, and Pakistan. Our aim is to influence policy and practices to meet the associated challenges emerging in the HKH region. Working to deliver impacts in five Regional Programmes across four Thematic Areas – Water and Air; Ecosystem Management; Livelihoods; and Geospatial Solutions – and supported by integrated knowledge management, we seek to improve the lives and livelihoods of mountain women and men, now and for the future.
The Strategic Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation Unit works closely with the Directorate and all ICIMOD programmes to ensure solid strategic and operational planning as well as rigorous and ongoing monitoring. From 2013, a new five-year strategic plan will be initiated with an increased focus on delivery of impacts in the regional member countries in terms of science, policy, and practice. To enhance this effort, ICIMOD is currently looking for Impact Monitoring and Evaluation Expert
Summary of responsibilities:
Under the overall guidance of the Director General and the direct supervision of the Head of the Strategic Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation (SPME) Unit, s/he will be responsible for:
• Designing systems for impact monitoring and evaluation of regional initiatives
• Further develop and institutionalize the impact pathway methodology at ICIMOD
• Build the capacities of ICIMOD and partner organizations to use impact pathways and other impact-driven monitoring and evaluation strategies
• Contribute to ICIMOD’s annual planning and review process
• Support the organization in providing and communicating evidence of impact
Minimum Qualifications and Skills
• Master’s degree in development planning, economics, environmental science, natural resource management, or other relevant field, preferably with a specialization in monitoring and evaluation
• At least 8 years of progressive work experience in the development sector, with at least 5 years of specialized monitoring and evaluation experience, preferably in the field of science for development
• Demonstrable, state-of-the-art knowledge in relevant monitoring and evaluation theories, methodologies, and tools, specifically impact pathways
• Ability to effectively communicate with stakeholders from different levels and backgrounds, maintain existing linkages.
• Advanced skills in designing and facilitating internal and external workshops and capacity building events, as well as supporting colleagues
• Ability to independently write high-quality project reports for different target groups
Remuneration: Salaries and benefits of ICIMOD are highly competitive compared to other regional organisations; remuneration is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
Duration: An initial 3 years, possibility of extension subject to ICIMOD’s future funding levels. Starting date is, preferably February 2012.
