Computational Bioscientific Bioinformatician

Grade 7: £29,249 - £35,938 p.a.
The Nuffield Department of Medicine wishes to appoint a Computational Bioscientist/Bioinformatician. The postholder will work in a team of at least eight people with bioinformatics, software engineering and statistical genetics expertise. The multidisciplinary group exceeds 40 researchers based in Oxford, Leeds, Birmingham, London and Brighton. This group is working at the forefront of research into pathogen genomics focussed on evolutionary and transmission studies as well as translating next generation sequencing into routine clinical and public health practice with the Health Protection Agency. These projects are funded by the UKCRC, HICF (Wellcome Trust, MRC and Department of Health) and the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre.

To succeed in this post, you will have strong programming skills, and/or a background in biological sequence analysis, together with an enquiring and flexible attitude and an interest in working collaboratively with researchers from different disciplines.

You will have a MSc (or equivalent experience and having a PhD will be an advantage) in a relevant scientific subject with experience in large-scale bioinformatics analyses of sequence data. You should have the ability to work independently and to work as a team member with professionals from different disciplines. You will also demonstrate ability to organise work time and deliver results to the required standard on schedule.
