The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a high performing, committed and safety focussed Senior Exploration Geologist for our open cut Gold mine at Cowal.
Reporting to the Geology Superintendent you could be responsible for planning, budgeting, prioritisation and reporting of near mine and regional exploration programs, focusing on the discovery of new resources and reserves.
As the Senior Exploration Geologist you will promote positive interactions between exploration and mine geology for quality evaluation of mineral resource potential within the mining lease and on regional tenements. You will also be responsible for providing strategic direction for exploration activities and the supervision of exploration personnel to deliver value on Barrick tenement holdings.
Typical duties that the Senior Exploration Geologist will be accountable for will include but, not be limited to:
- The provision of technical direction and supervision for all exploration geologists and geological technicians
- Designing detailed exploration field programmes and drilling programmes
- Providing detailed interpretation of geology and structure
- Ensuring the integrity of the geological and assaying database is maintained
- Meeting all regulatory reporting needs in an accurate, efficient and timely manner.
- The management and supervision of diamond & reverse circulation drilling contractors, down hole survey contractors, and assay laboratory contractors
- Providing geological assistance to resource modelling in consultation with the Senior Resource/Mine Geologist
- Maintaining a good knowledge of current gold deposit geological models
The Person
In order to be successful in this challenging role you will need to possess a tertiary qualification in Geology or a closely related discipline, coupled with significant experience in undertaking and leading exploration activities within the mining & resources sector.
You will also be required to demonstrate the first class interpersonal and communication skills necessary to lead and mentor others.
Membership to the Australasian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy or equivalent will also be highly advantageous.
If successful, you will also be required to undergo a pre-employment medical as part of the recruitment process.
