Chevron is accepting online applications for the position of Senior Metallurgy and Welding Engineer located in Houston, TX, through February 28, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. (Eastern Standard Time).

This position provides Metallurgy and Welding Engineering consulting services to Chevron operating companies, affiliates & capital projects worldwide. Responsibilities include troubleshooting equipment integrity problems and consulting on materials selection, fabrication and repair procedures. Will interact with industry suppliers, industry committees, and engineers at other oil companies to advance company best practices and standard.
Position Details:Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Broad understanding of the material properties, material degradation mechanisms and welding challenges that affect integrity and reliability of oil and gas production equipment
  • Functional knowledge of critical equipment design and fabrication methods for OCTG, wellheads, pipelines, valves, structures, vessels and processing plant equipment
  • Understand engineering basis for production and oil & gas processing
  • Understand how industry methods are used in Chevron's businesses
  • Lead small Technical Development projects
  • Conduct local training in reliability and engineering

    Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree in Welding Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering, or Materials Engineering
  • 5-10 years of materials, metallurgy and welding engineering in upstream oil and gas production equipment and facilities 
  • 5-10 years experience in design, procurement, construction (fabrication and installation), and repair of petroleum industry equipment and facilities
  • Considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in significant areas of the discipline and mentors and consults other engineers 
  • Broad knowledge of ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code and Piping Codes such as B31.1 for Power Piping and B31.3 Process Piping, API, AWS, NACE and NBIC to provide internal and external direction
  • Interact with industry suppliers, industry committees, and engineers at other oil companies to advance company best practices and standards
  • Able to work in both office and field (onshore and offshore, US and international locations) environments including operating facilities, manufacturer & testing sites, with occasional climbing and equipment confined space entry
  • Excellent organizational and communications skills
  • Proficiency of working and communicating with a multi-functional asset team
  • Experience with CSOC and CPDEP principles; understands customer focus 
  • Medically fit to meet minimum medical standards for site work, including aspects such as entry into confined spaces 
  • Ability to respond to emergency calls and work associated long hours

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters Degree in Welding or Metallurgical Engineering desirable
  • Professional Engineering registration is desirable
  • Significant Metallurgy and Welding Engineering expertise and a desire to be a consultant
