Job Overview
In the
next four years, GHRI will focus on generating global health research
that is relevant to health and health system decision-making in low- and
middle-income countries, and systematically bring the findings to
Canadian government stakeholders. It will also aim to inform decisions
made by Canadian federal agencies about global health research and
development investments.
As the Senior Program Officer, Knowledge Translation
and a key member of our multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the
Program Leader, you will design and implement strategies and approaches
to consult with Canadian government decision-makers on global health
research, uncovering their research needs; produce user-friendly
summative documents that synthesize global health research for Canadian
government agencies; organize and manage information exchanges,
stimulating discussions based on a body of research that enable
engagement and uptake in Canadian policy, and; design products and
activities to promote the dissemination and uptake of research results
to a variety of audiences (e.g. symposiums).
Candidate Profile
Education
Preferably
a PhD or Masters’ degree in relevant field such as health policy,
public health, health systems with additional studies or experience in
knowledge translation, journalism, communications, or related
experience.
Experience
This position requires a minimum of five years of progressive relevant experience including:
- A background in health research, knowledge translation and research management
- Designing and implementing strategies to share the results of research to diverse audiences
- Engaging with researchers and research users, and undertaking brokering events to link research to policy
- Planning and managing of projects
- Analysing and synthesizing complex information; writing research summaries and reports.
- Collaborating with the Canadian federal government and key national and international organizations involved in health, research, development and knowledge translation is essential
- Active member of Global Health Networks is highly desirable.
Language
- A superior knowledge of English and intermediate knowledge of French is essential for the position
Knowledge
This position requires sound knowledge of:
- How decision-makers and policy actors define their needs for research and integrate the results
- Principles of knowledge translation and communication
- Development, global health, and health systems priorities and issues both in low- and middle-income countries and in Canada
- Applying knowledge from low- and middle-income countries to inform high-income policy making and programming
- Policy and decision making processes of Canadian government agencies

Additional Information
This position involves travel of 60 - 90 days per year.
