GENERAL MANAGER, LANTA ANIMAL WELFARE
We are looking for a practical, multi-tasking, and reliable personality with strong leadership qualities as soon as possible. Based on the island of Koh Lanta, in the south west of Thailand, this is an incredibly exciting job for those who wish to make a world of difference to animals in need. It will be the experience of a lifetime; you will meet many interesting people, have many laughs and shed some tears as well.
A thorough introduction and handover will be provided. The successful candidate will also be expected to spend the first two months of their appointment working in the role of General Volunteer, in order to get a full understanding of the workings of the Centre and complete familiarity with the animals.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Priority tasks - Organising and delegating the mapping and catching of stray dogs in need of sterilisation
- Coordinating/delegating and organising mobile clinics both on Koh Lanta and neighbouring islands
- Finding sponsorship from both local and international sources, applying for grants
- Coordinating/delegating the running of our education programme for local schools
- Being present and knowledgeable for adoption appointments
- Insuring the well-being of all animals at the Centre (monitoring signs of illness and distress, checking to make sure the dogs are placed in the most appropriate enclosures, and making sure that all animals are well adjusted and receiving the necessary affection)
- Providing basic care to animals when no vet available (vaccinations, medicines, wound bandaging, flea/tick treatment, etc)
- Keeping accurate records of all animals that come to the Centre (pets and strays)
- Insuring the Centre's hygiene and maintenance
- Purchasing medical supplies e.g. medicine, equipment, drugs
- Purchasing food and Centre supplies
- Developing & maintaining a high profile and good relations with the local community; ensuring they understand your role and that you are regularly visible in the community
- Answering people's queries in person and via phone, Facebook & e-mail
- General administration tasks e.g. accounts, organising animal files, etc
Other essential tasks:
- Fund raising (organising the dispatch and collection of donation boxes on the island)
- Managing the centre staff and volunteer members
- Dealing with customers' payments/donations
- Providing cover for the Adoption, Marketing and Volunteer Coordinator when necessary
- Doing "sleep-ins" near our dog kennels when necessary
ESSENTIAL QUALITIES:
- Love and passion for animals and their welfare; a strong understanding of dogs and cats
- The ability to get to grips with a multi-tasking role and in doing so, understand the priorities
- Confident and capable leadership qualities, independent decision making and use of initiative
- Very strong organisational and management skills and the ability to delegate when necessary
- Good social and communication skills to deal with pet owners, volunteers and the local community [95% of the community is Muslim]
- The ability to work in a team as well as independently
- Hard worker, committed and physically strong
- Fluent English essential
- Flexibility and a positive attitude
- Being able to improvise in difficult or unusual situations
- "Hands on" personality and confident in dealing with packs of dogs
- Must have a valid driving licence
- Good computer skills
DESIREABLE QUALITIES
- Knowledge of the Thai language and a good understanding of Thai culture
- Previous experience working in Asia
- Medical experience with animals e.g. vaccinations
Benefits:
- 15,000 THB/month - this is a good Thai salary (Please note that your first two months will be UNPAID VOLUNTARYWORK. It is anticipated that during this period you will work alongside our existing Manager and as a charity with very limited funds, we are unable to afford the two salaries.)
- 1 year minimum contract, of which the first 3 months will be a trial period for both parties
- Free accommodation with private bathroom and wifi on-site (may be shared with a volunteer) or in a 3 bedroom house with shared kitchen & bathroom
- If you choose to live off-site this will be at your own expense
- 14 days holiday per year
- 1 day off per week

1 Thai assistant manager who speaks great English
1 Adoption, Marketing and Volunteer Coordinator
Several volunteers from around the world; vets, vet nurses, and animal lovers

Clinic opening hours: Monday to Saturday: 9 am to 5 pm [flexible to Thai customs]
Location: Koh Lanta in southern Thailand, near Krabi and Phuket is a lovely island which has managed to maintain its own personality and special qualities despite the fact that more and more people have recently discovered the island's attractions. This is a place where you can unwind and enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, good (and cheap) food and beautiful beaches. Great scuba diving too! You will work from our Centre at Pra-Ae (Long Beach), a 7 min. walk to the nearest beach.
