Health & Nutrition Coordinator, Darfur 12 months contract (with possible extension)
£29,198 gross per annum (plus £250 per month hardship allowance and R&R) Based in El Geneina, Western Darfur. Unaccompanied post.

HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Our work in over 75 countries is strengthened through our global network of like-minded organisations - the only one of its kind in the world. HelpAge programming in West Darfur seeks to address the immediate needs of older people affected by the IDP crisis, while at the same time affecting some longer-term change by promoting enhanced protection and comprehensive support for older people. During 2013 HelpAge will start working with national partners to build their capacity to serve older people better. This is a gradual change for direct approach to partnership ventures.

The health and nutrition coordinator will be responsible for the implementation and supervision of all health and nutrition activities included in HelpAge Darfur programme. You will take a leading role in the international agency community in Darfur in the protection and promotion of older people’s health and nutrition within the framework of the current crisis. The successful candidate will also develop a clear health strategy for the Darfur programme for the next 1-2 years and help build the capacity of local staff to deliver this strategy.

A qualified medical practitioner with a degree in nutrition or health management, you will have extensive and intensive experience of managing multi-donor health and nutrition programmes (including CMAM) in emergency contexts, including staff management and capacity development. You will also have substantial experience in assessment (e.g. nutrition surveys) and programme development and management in nutrition and health (knowledge of SQUEAC would be an asset). Knowledge and experience of working in Africa as well as demonstrable experience of working in public health are also essential for this role.
