The Department of Global Studies at Pusan National University invites applicants for a tenure-track appointment in one of the social sciences beginning September 1, 2013. This position is designated for a non-Korean national who speaks English at a native or near-native level due to funding restriction. The applicant must hold a Ph.D. in anthropology, history, political science, sociology, global studies or another area of the social sciences. Completion of the Ph.D. by the date of appointment is acceptable.
The standard annual teaching load is three courses (nine credits) per semester. The successful candidate will teach introductory courses and upper-level courses in his or her area of specialization, and will share departmental responsibilities, including supervision of extracurricular activities.
The starting salary will be based on education and experience. Benefits include modern, convenient, private housing, partial subsidy for children's education at an international grade school, medical coverage plan, pension plan, severance pay, and partial support for airfare and moving costs to Korea. Research grants are available and are awarded based on meeting publication requirements. Successful candidates may be asked to teach during the summer and winter breaks, for which additional compensation is provided. The particulars of salary offers and benefits, and other terms of hiring and employment, will conform to the Rules for Public Education Personnel and Staff Act of the Republic of Korea and the policies at Pusan National University.
