You will work within the Manufacturing Engineering group and be responsible for providing continuous improvement to our custom optical packaging group. Axsun/Volcano is committed to providing the tools and resources required to get the job done as you help to grow our optical engine based product for medical and industrial applications. Axsun has developed an optical assembly platform that features sub-micro active alignment of components to achieve world class performance in our assemblies.
Responsibilities:
  • Support custom equipment and processes used for precision alignment of optical fibers and components
  • Establish Statistical Controls and monitors for key performance metrics and implement to production processes
  • Create plan for alignment process improvements which includes qualification and implementation
  • Become fully familiar with alignment processes and work with production operators, equipment engineering and test engineering to implement process improvements
  • Be responsible for all detailed Work Instructions and training related to automated micro alignment, module mechanical measurements and fiber attach processes
  • Reduce micro align/ attach process overall defect rate to achieve team goals
  • Disposition failures within the process and create/qualify a rework process to salvage high value opto-electronic packaging components or assemblies
Qualifications:Education: 
  • Technical BS degree (Mechanical Engineering/Manufacturing Engineering/Optical Engineering)
Knowledge and Experience: 
  • 2-5 years in an optical-electronic packaging manufacturing environment
  • Understanding of Statistical Techniques for Process Control and evaluation
  • Exposure to automated data (PC-based) collection systems - creating methods for tracking and maintaining information electronically
  • Strong mechanical and materials knowledge related to opto-mechanical assemblies along with exposure to solder and epoxy joining technologies
  • Exposure to Lean/Continuous Improvement techniques
Skills and Abilities:
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work on small components, microscope and tweezers
  • General PC skills
Additional Desirable Qualifications: 
  • Exposure to Optics and optical properties
  • Background in electro/mechanical applications (robotics)
  • Demonstrate a "hands-on" attitude and an aptitude for getting the job done
