Mine Survey Technologist - Horizon Oil Sands

Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth. Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil. We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d. Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

This position is based in Fort McMurray, Alberta and is eligible for:
• Relocation to Calgary or Fort McMurray

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our Horizon Oil Sands operation is expanding with project spending forecasted at approximately $2 - 2.5 billion each year for the next several years.

The Mine Survey Technologist will be responsible for completing regularly scheduled as well as unscheduled surveys of the mine pit and construction site.
The role has potential for future career advancement and growth in:
• Mine Planning
• Data processing accountabilities
• Providing recommendations to implement improved technologies and procedures for mine survey

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Complete surveys of the mine pit and construction site using Topographical modeling
• Update the digital database using Minetec MineSight software
• Compile monthly reports including volume and tonnage calculations
• Maintain as-built database for all mine projects
• Research and remain current with all improvements in the surveying and GPS fields

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 2+ years of related industry experience, with a technical diploma or certificate in Mining or Engineering
• Familiarity with and understanding of:
- GPS and conventional survey equipment
- 3D software capabilities
- Minetec MineSight, AutoCAD or similar topographical software
- Open pit mine and mining in construction waste facilities
