Horizon Oil Sands
Horizon Oil Sands is an exciting part of our growth. Full production capacity for Phase 1 is 110,000 bbl/d of fully upgraded, light, sweet synthetic crude oil. We will see incremental production gains throughout the completion of future expansion and debottlenecking, with targeted full facility capacity of approximately 250,000 bbl/d. Further phases of expansion will bring the ultimate capacity to 500,000 bbl/d.

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Our Horizon Oil Sands operation is expanding with project spending forecasted at approximately $2 - 2.5 billion each year for the next several years.
The Construction Superintendent will supervise a multidisciplinary team of construction coordinators responsible for the mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation construction components of the bid, design and constructability reviews. The Superintendent will act as the main contact in the interface between Operations and the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contractors.

HOW WILL YOU MAKE YOUR MARK?
• Participate in bid reviews as required for Major Projects
• Participate in area constructability reviews as required
• Review contractor Construction Execution Plans, schedules and manpower loading
• Be familiar with contractor designs for Civil/Structural, Mechanical, Piping, Electrical and Instrumentation equipment work scopes to ensure all required installation procedures and specifications are properly followed
• Understand and review contractor modularization proposals and work with contractors to ensure installation interfaces with other units/groups are taken into account
• Review contractor Quality Control (QC) programs, and Inspection and Test Plans
• Support and expedite the coordination between Operations and EPC contractors
• Monitor work completion as per schedule milestone dates and indicate deviations to the Construction Manager
• Act as Major Projects field construction coordinator for work packages
• Monitor construction manpower and equipment compliance to Canadian Natural site specific and Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) procedures
• Verify construction progress and notify the Construction Manager and Project Controls of any scope changes
• Monitor and participate in audits with safety specialists to ensure contractor safety compliance
• Audit contractor punch-list procedures and participate in punch listing; be a member of the pre-commissioning and system turnover team
• Coordinate and supervise the work assignments for the Civil, Piping, Mechanical, Electrical and Instrumentation Construction Coordinators
• Review, approve and coordinate the heavy lift plans submitted by the construction contractor, assuring compliance with CNRL requirements, regulations and Operations
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Typically 15+ years of related industry experience including 5+ years of supervisory experience with Grade 12 or GED
• Construction Management Certificate or Trade Certificate is an asset
• Familiarity with and understanding of:
- Working in a Construction Management or Supervisory position in oil sands, oil and gas and/or large construction projects
- Module and Supermodule assembly, transportation and installation
- Piping, Electrical and Instrumentation tie-ins at a detailed level
- Installation, assembly and lifting of heavy mechanical equipment (pumps, pump boxes, cyclones etc.) and modular units
- Working with large International Contractors/EPC firms
- Oil Sand construction experience working in Live Plants
- Upgrading and utilities expertise
- Planning and scheduling
