Description:
This is a full-time commitment (40 hours/week) for 12 weeks from May 20 through August 9, 2013.

Overview:
This internship program in restoration ecology is administered by Madison Audubon Society. Interns work in small groups at sites within 30 miles of Madison. Two teams will be hired for the summer of 2013: the Prairie Partners team will work at four sites in Dane and Columbia counties (Pheasant Branch Conservancy, the UW-Madison Lakeshore Nature Preserve, Goose Pond Sanctuary, and Westport Drumlin Prairie/Empire Prairies State Natural Area); the Faville Grove team will work at Faville Grove Sanctuary, Faville Prairie and Snapper Prairie State Natural Areas in Jefferson County. While at each site, interns will be supervised by the managers of that site. This highly successful program provides an outstanding opportunity for students interested in restoration ecology to learn while they are working. Applicants will be considered for both teams unless otherwise requested.

Compensation: $10.00 per hour. Students may arrange academic credit through their home institution.

Eligibility:
For the Faville Grove team only, applicants must be continuing students or accepted for enrollment as undergraduates or special students at a University of Wisconsin System institution. Applicants must be able to perform sustained physical work outdoors.

Job Duties:
Weed control (including mechanical and chemical means), seed collection, trail maintenance, biological monitoring, etc. All tasks involve outdoor work in a variety of habitats, sometimes under uncomfortable weather conditions. Ability to work well under a variety of conditions is a key component in intern success.

Other: Interns are responsible for their travel, housing, and other living expenses, and are encouraged to carpool between home and worksites. Sturdy work boots, gloves and clothing, as well as sun, rain and insect protection are required. All tools will be provided.

Application deadline to ensure consideration is Monday, February 25, 2013.
