SG3 Lawyers


SOCA/NCA tackles serious criminality that impacts on the UK and its citizens. This includes class A drugs, people smuggling and human trafficking, major gun crime, fraud, computer crime, money laundering and the corruption that organised criminals use to facilitate these crimes.
We work to imprison serious criminals, and use many other tactics to disrupt crime and keep people safe. In particular, we want to ensure crime doesn’t pay and that it’s harder to commit. We also draw on innovative new approaches to prevent crimes from happening in the first place.

Starting Salary: £41,195 plus London weighting (£3,162) where applicable. We are able to match salaries of current Civil Servants up to £47,379.
Role summary:
The majority of the vacancies we are seeking to fill are in the Civil Recovery and Tax team.  Lawyers are responsible for the provision of legal assistance in some of SOCA’s more serious and complex investigations concerning the civil recovery of the proceeds of crime.  They are responsible for the care and conduct of civil litigation in the High Court under part 5 and part 8 of the Proceeds of Crime Act.  Experience of civil litigation/asset tracing and recovery/restraint and confiscation work will be an advantage.
Vacancies also exist in the Cash Seizure team.  Lawyers are responsible for advice on proposed seizures of cash, applications for detention and forfeiture of cash and the conduct of litigation under the Proceeds of Crime Act in the Magistrates’ Court.
There may be other opportunities, dependent on business requirement within the Legal team.

Candidates are required to meet & evidence the following Training and Professional Qualifications
Essential
  • Solicitor or Barrister qualified to practise in England and Wales
  • Applicants must have a minimum of a 2:1 degree (in any subject). In exceptional circumstances we may consider applicants with a lower degree classification or a recognised professional qualification, where the applicant can demonstrate equivalent high level academic and/or professional achievement.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year’s PQE.
  • Additional assessment: candidates will be asked to complete a written assessment to demonstrate their legal knowledge, unless they are already part of the Government Legal Service.

SECURITY CLEARANCE
To be considered, you will need to successfully complete Security clearance (SC) before commencing the role.
You will also be required to undertake a mandatory pre-employment substance misuse test and achieve a satisfactory result.
You should be aware that some roles within SOCA/NCA do require Developed Vetting Security clearance but this is not required for entry.
