This person will perform and lead research, algorithm design, prototype, implementation, testing, and documentation of signal and image processing procedures for optimal imaging and quantification with current and future intravascular imaging systems. Investigate and develop new tools or devices to improve and automate current company's signal and image post-processing and quantification tools. Participate with project teams on definition, design, implementation, documentation, verification, and validation of products according to development procedures and protocols. Learn the company products to improve data and image quality.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Plans and executes laboratory research
  • Leads and participates in clinical human and animal imaging studies for assessment and testing of new technologies and products
  • Leads small to medium projects building consensus throughout the organization and coordinated teamwork amongst other engineering disciplines and other departments
  • Contribute to the design, development, and modification of components in the signal and image processing chain of imaging systems and catheters
  • Perform laboratory testing for quality and Verification procedures of the company's intravascular imaging systems
  • Support prototype-to-product engineering stage for advanced imaging systems
  • Participate in research and development of advanced intravascular imaging systems with an emphasis on signal and image processing and analysis
  • Demonstrate organizational and interpersonal skills working in a cross-functional, regulated environment. Maintains detailed documentation according to product development processes throughout all phases of research and development
  • Performs other duties as required
Qualifications:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
  • Requires a Master of Science degree in biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science, physics or a related field from an accredited university
  • Formal background and training in signal and image processing
  • Requires 5+ years' experience in medical ultrasound, cardiovascular image and signal processing, or related field (academic experience acceptable)
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of medical imaging and ultrasound physics
  • Knowledge of theories and principles of signal and imaging processing (preferably in a medical setting)
  • Experience with scientific computing applications (i.e.: MATLAB, IDL, LabView)
  • Knowledge of computer applications (i.e.: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Windows, etc.)
  • Knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, vocabulary and of generally accepted office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Ability to lead and work in a team environment ensuring conducive working relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with persons contacted in the course of performing assigned duties including Company management and outside business associates
  • Strong attention to details
  • Excellent analytical, training and motivational skills
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workflow in order to meet established time frames and schedules
  • Communicate ideas effectively (including verbal, written, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Assimilate techniques from scientific literature
  • Keep laboratory notebook in accordance with internal procedures
  • Develop intellectual property and support patenting process
  • Remain current with medical imaging technology, relevant intellectual property, and relevant medical device industry progress
  • Develops solutions to a variety of complex problems; ensures solutions are consistent with objectives related to the project
  • Mentor engineers, interns, technicians
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • PhD in biomedical sciences or related field from an accredited university
  • Familiarity with cardiology catheterization procedures, tools, and terminology
  • Experience working in the medical device field
  • Experience using standard software development tools (e.g. C++)
  • Experience supervising small projects

  • Ability to hear and speak to employees and outside business associates on the phone and in person
  • Ability to sit for long hours at a time
  • Ability to see the letters and numbers on a personal computer screen and on memos, reports and other documents (near vision)
