Salary: Starting salary of £32,956 to £37,904 depending on circumstances
Role summary:
We are currently looking to fill a specialist role with a dynamic forward looking and experienced Software Design Engineer.  This individual will be involved in many aspects of the Operational Capability and Development (OCAD) lifecycle within SOCA.
Day to day the successful candidate will have the responsibility of liaising with other internal departments and other external government departments ensuring a joined up and cohesive approach to any development.  Within OCAD the candidate will have the responsibility of identifying areas of development where Software integration could be key to capability development and further recommending whether in-house development or external development would be the most economic options.
With their expertise and understanding in new and emerging software technologies the candidate will be a key member of many Development Projects and their Project Management Groups being a Subject Matter Expert (SME).  With large file, mass data exploitation and data analytics being a key field of development the engineer will have the freedom to explore new technologies, keep up to date via training and create small bespoke applications to meet emerging needs or as concept demonstrators.

Candidates are required to provide evidence against ONLY the following Entry Criteria –
  1. In depth working knowledge of TCP/IP protocol stack and web 2.0 technologies such as HTML, CSS, JS, PHP, Python, XML, JSON, XSLT, ATOM, RSS.
  2. Innovative problem solving skills
  3. Knowledge of Object Orientated programming and procedural programming.
  4. Proven experience of working with relational databases and web technologies

Essential
  • Relevant degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or Mathematics or equivalent relevant experience.

SECURITY CLEARANCE
