Head: Wholesale Markets (Cross Fuel), Band E


The aim of the Wholesale Markets Directorate is to help ensure we have wholesale market arrangements that operate in the best interests of customers, by monitoring market developments closely, identifying any problems, and proposing and implementing improvements where appropriate. You will lead, the teams responsible for monitoring developments in wholesale market liquidity, and develop and implement measures to improve liquidity in wholesale electricity markets. In addition, you will monitor for possible wholesale market abuse and investigate, as appropriate, as well as further develop the System Operator (SO) incentive regime for both electricity and gas.
Key Requirements:
  • Degree level education (preferably in economics or relevant associated discipline) and proven team leadership experience, in a policy analysis and policy delivery environment.
  • Strong experience in managing and developing teams. Management of other managers would be particularly desirable.
  • Proven track record in managing and delivering major projects against challenging deadlines, including experience in managing multiple projects or workstreams.
  • Proven expertise in policy development, either in public/or private sector.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to represent Ofgem and influence at the highest levels within the industry.
  • Proven ability to take decisions with significant financial implications.
