Psychiatrist

The Lower East Side Harm Reduction Center, located at 25 Allen Street, New York, NY 10002, is seeking a M.D. Degreed, current New York State Licensed and Board certified, Psychiatrist with experience working with active drug users and/or people living with HIV/AIDS.

The individual will be responsible for providing mental health services to LESHRC participants. He/She will perform psychiatric assessments and evaluations to determine diagnoses, prescribe plan of treatment, provide psychiatric treatment, patient observation, interviews, counseling, medication management, Buprenorphine induction and maintenance as per treatment plan, and perform follow-up assessments to determine mental health status of participants and plans for follow-up. The individual should possess the ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and have a calm demeanor to diffuse conflict situations. A sensitivity to active drug users is necessary together with patience, creativity, flexibility, and compassion.

The position reports to the Director of Programs and will work closely with the Mental Health Coordinator (MHC) and the Health Services Coordinator (HSC) of the agency in the coordination of services to participants.
