Sustainability Coordinator - Saint Louis Zoo


Responsibilities: Develop, implement, support and manage both the Zoo's short-term and long-term sustainability programs and initiatives. Coordinate and refine current internal initiatives such as climate change programs, energy conservation, water conservation, recycling and sustainable purchasing. Identify new initiatives and programs that further the Zoo's mission while having a positive impact on staff and visitors as well as the environment and long-term operational costs. Collaborate with internal Zoo departments, including the Workforce Development and Education Departments as well as the Zoo's "Green Team" to provide staff training on sustainability issues and increase staff engagement through workshops, events and evaluation. Collect, maintain and track data to evaluate the Zoo's sustainability initiatives and achievements. Create print, web and training materials for internal and external dissemination. Work to develop and foster relationships and partnerships with colleagues at other local, national and international institutions and organizations with a focus on sustainability. Participate in strategic planning and assist with other Zoo projects as assigned, including participation on Zoo-wide teams.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required preferred emphasis in engineering, environmental science or other related field. LEED Green Associate or LEED AP accreditation required. Minimum of three years experience in the execution of green projects and sustainability initiatives. Excellent written, oral and public communication skills. Knowledge and awareness of current local, national and international sustainability trends and issues, along with the ability to communicate them to various audiences. Computer skills required, including knowledge of Microsoft Office suite. Must have the ability to do moderate lifting in order to transport equipment and material to sites. Must be able to work some irregular hours including evenings and weekends. All successful candidates for this position will be required to submit to a criminal background check and drug test.
